Translate Japanese fishing videos into English.
Most Japanese fishing videos on YouTube have no English captions, and auto-translate turns 青物 into “green food.” Translate My Hobby is a Chrome extension built by an angler: it translates the audio itself and is tuned to get the rods, lures, rigs and fish right.
Coming to the Chrome Web Store in November 2026.
Short fishing lines are where machine translation falls apart.
Google Translate was run on the exact Japanese text on 1 Nov 2026. YouTube’s automatic captions also have to hear the Japanese first, which adds its own mistakes. Translate My Hobby lines are from our test runs. It is still machine translation and will sometimes miss.
Click once. Watch in English.
Click Translate on the video
In Chrome on a computer, on any public YouTube video up to 60 minutes. The button shows the cost first: a 26-minute video uses 26 minutes.
We transcribe the audio and check the gear
Our server writes its own Japanese transcript instead of using YouTube’s captions, and reads the title, description and tags for brand and model names.
A second pass reads the whole video
A first draft usually appears within a few minutes, depending on the queue. A stronger model then reads the full video and corrects it. Watching it again is free.
Built by a long-time angler who was already watching Japanese fishing videos this way, and got tired of guessing what the captain said.
Japanese fishing YouTube. Now in English.
Buy minutes once. No subscription.
Each video is charged once, by its length, when you click Translate. Minutes never expire.
